ISRI2021, ISRI’s virtual convention, will feature several sessions on the Business Operations, Technology and Innovation track. Here’s a sneak peek at some of those sessions and the speakers to keep an eye out for.
R2v3 from a Recycler’s Perspective, April 20, 12:45 – 1:30 p.m.
The R2 standard has successfully raised the bar for best practices in responsible electronics recycling for more than 10 years. The latest version of that standard, R2v3, will challenge recyclers to take it to a new level to be certified. This session will feature panelists who were involved in the revised standard and provide insight into the changes needed for certification.
Rike Sandlin
Rike Sandlin advises organizations across the industry on Operational Excellence to enable scale and empower growth. Sandlin consults on subjects including business strategies, go-to-market plans, processing best practices, security and sustainability initiatives, and continuous improvement. He previously served as the COO of HiTech Assets, and director of marketing for Arrow Electronics.
Laying the Foundation for Long-Term Success through Cultivation, Mentorship, and Opportunity, April 22, 2:45 – 3:30 p.m.
The growth and longevity of a company’s success depends on strong leadership and building a workforce. The panelists for this session will share their pivot into the recycling industry (family and non-family ties), and offer their perspectives on the importance of talent acquisition, cultivation, and mentorship.
Josephita Harry
Josephita Harry is the vice-president of trading in the Non-Ferrous & Electronics Scrap division at Pan American Zinc. In this role, Harry oversees all nonferrous scrap trading for Pan American Zinc, and develops nonferrous metal ingot sales. Harry’s passion for recycling began with a school project in 1995 called “Clean Up India,” which focused on Recycling/Waste Management.
Using Financing in Recycling as a Strategy to Maximize Growth, April 28, 12:45 – 1:30 p.m.
Finance plays a critical role in how an organization manages its cash flow. Understanding how to use finance options in the right scenarios can play a key part in optimizing the growth trajectory of one’s business. This session will examine cash purchases versus financing and when to use different types of financing methods (traditional bank loans, capital leases, operating leases, and rentals).
Paula Summers Murphy
Paula Summers Murphy is the director of Strategic Partnerships at Vision Financial Group, Inc. (VFG). Responsible for ascertaining a company’s financial needs, Murphy also understands complex technologies and equipment. She is the incoming co-chair for the ISRI Women in Recycling (WIR) Council.
Company Culture, April 29, 12:45 – 1:30 p.m.
Rarely does true organizational change occur without a change in culture. Attendees will be able to define their own company’s culture, identify the different aspects of creating a strong culture, and ultimately, positively influence their company culture.
Craig Boswell
Craig Boswell is the co-founder and president of HOBI International, Inc. He is extensively involved in the design, development, and deployment of electronics demanufacturing and recycling techniques. Boswell is also HOBI’s chief industry consultant on demanufacturing, design for disassembly, and reverse logistics programs.
