Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) is taking place Oct. 6 this year and ISRI is celebrating how recycled materials are essential to manufacturing. Created by the National Association of Manufacturers’ nonprofit workforce development organization, the Manufacturing Institute, MFG Day kicks off a month-long effort including social media, virtual and local in-person events aimed at engaging and inspiring the next generation of the manufacturing workforce.
Every year, 70 percent of materials processed by the recycling industry are used in American manufacturing. This includes everything from cars, jewelry, soda cans, laptops and medical equipment. ISRI will be highlighting this essential role of recycled materials throughout the month as well as the workforce that makes this possible.
The recycled materials industry supports more than half a million jobs in the U.S., and is always recruiting and cultivating a diverse workforce. During this month, ISRI is also highlighting the Sustainability Pathways Program, which offers paid fellowship and internship opportunities at member companies for current and recent graduates. This program is part of a wealth of recruiting and retention resources available on the ISRI website.
Join ISRI in getting the word out about the recycled materials industry this month and be sure to use #MFGDay23 on your social media posts.
