Recognizing the importance of celebrating women in the recycled materials industry and the work done to raise visibility and create opportunities for others, the ReMA Women in Recycling Council (WIR) is launching the association’s first-ever ReMA Woman of the Year Award. The award will be presented annually during the Great Lakes Regional Conference.

“The Women in Recycling Council was reinvigorated in an effort to provide a platform for women to connect, increase visibility, and grow in both their professional lives and their volunteer experiences within ReMA,” said ReMA Women in Recycling Council Staff Liaison and Director of Communications Rachel Bookman. “The creation of the Women of the Year Award is the natural next step in ensuring women in the industry receive the recognition they so rightly deserve for contributions made to the betterment of the recycled materials industry and the support of female leaders. We must continue to forge a path for others and be the change we want to see.”

In its inaugural year, the award will be presented to a yet to be announced woman in the industry who is exemplary of all that WIR represents. Following years will include a peer or self-nomination process for potential awardees.

The award will be presented on Aug. 29, as part of the inaugural Great Lakes Regional Conference which is hosted by five ReMA Chapters (Pittsburgh, Northern Ohio, Ohio Valley, Michigan, and Empire) in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Stay tuned for the announcement of the 2024 Award recipient coming soon!
