When Robin Wiener, president of the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) learned about Everybody Wins DC’s (EWDC) annual Association Book Drive Challenge she was immediately hooked.
“This challenge focuses on gifting books to children in the Washington, DC area,” Wiener said. “Reading and education are both passions of mine, so once I learned about the drive, I knew I had to sign ReMA up to participate.”
Launched in 2021 in partnership with American Petroleum Institute, the EWDC’s annual Association Book Drive Challenge helps EWDC put thousands of new and diverse books directly into kids’ hands.
This year, ReMA is excited to participate and help children build engaging and inspiring home libraries. ReMA has been given a custom book list — curated by EWDC — to purchase books between now and December 13. The books are then given away to students through school and community distribution events, and by restocking EWDC’s Free Little Libraries located in book deserts in D.C. and Virginia.
If you’re interested in participating, you can purchase a book or more through the book donation link and once you check out the book will automatically ship to EWDC. If you are unable to purchase a book but would still like to contribute you can make a monetary donation through this link. For each book you donate, ReMA will buy one in addition.
There will be two Challenge winners: the Team Award (most books donated per employee) and the Literacy Leader Award (most books and dollars donated overall). Challenge winners will be acknowledged at EWDC’s annual gala, Read to Dream, in May 2025.
